November 11th 2018 saw our first Remembrance Day Clout Shoot. Interest in clout shooting has been growing steadily at GVA over the last few months. Always a popular part of the beginners’ course, we now have a regular group of long-distance archers on a Sunday morning.
In the build up to this years’ shoot the weather forecast was looking less than promising with whispers of possible cancellation. However, on the day we were blessed with dry and sunny conditions with only the occasional ‘Gordano Gust’ up from the Bristol Channel.
With ranges from 80 to 180 yards and most of us being fairly new to the discipline, there was a good deal of “getting your eye in”. But by the last few ends the sense of friendly competition was growing tangibly.
At 11am we all paused for 2 minutes silence to acknowledge Remembrance Sunday.
There were notable performances from Jim Knowles and Lisa Cramphorn but our winners were:
Neil McGrath – Senior Gents Barebow
Richard Thackray – Senior Gents Longbow
Kirsten Hill-Nixon – Senior Ladies Barebow
Archie Callaghan – Juniors Barebow
Well done to everyone who took part and special thanks to Neil, Kirsten and Chris for helping to set up and run the shoot.
We are looking to hold a much larger ‘open’ event in the spring so stay tuned.
