Shooting Indoors on Sunday mornings
The club has decided that on Sunday mornings when the weather is inclement we shall shoot indoors. This will be run on the following basis. Those on a beginners course then juniors and disabled then seniors. In order for this to work we need people to be at the ground for 9.30 at the latest. A decision has to be made by the membership / beginners in time to set up an indoor range to make it viable. The range has to be taken down and the hall cleared by midday. If people turn up late and it has already been agreed to shoot outside then that is all that will be offered.
We do expect all those that are shooting to be at the ground for 9.30 at the latest to help set up indoors or outside. It is not fair on the few that get there on time to set up while others are just turning up and shooting. The more that help the easier and quicker it is for everyone.
Make Some Noise For Team GB Archers
The event is free and at Lilleshall, the aim being to try and create an atmosphere for the archers similar to what they may experience at the Olympics, plus you get to see the top UK Recurve archers slug it out for an actual place at the Olympics – should be good. We are looking into the possibility of a minibus for the 21st April. If you are interested in going can you let Tim know to see if it is viable. There are currently 12 virtual places left. If we get enough interest we should be able to sort something out - Paul has volunteered to drive. More info on this if we get enough bodies.
The President’s Challenge
Starting in March this year the President’s Challenge is the event to take part in. It is held over a number of Sundays throughout the Spring and Summer and may involve various bow styles, silly events, endurance events and generally having fun. You will need a handicap to enter so get some scores in over the next few months. You will not need to be available for every event but will need to turn out for most. The final details are still being worked on. It is about fun. Please keep an eye on the competitions page for more details.

Junior Bowman Awards
Congratulations to Ellie Boulton and Chessie Crook on achieving Junior Bowman. Ellie is the first junior in the club to attain Junior Bowman in Compound in fact she is the first compounder to attain a bowman award. This is another big step forward for the club.
Updated classifications and handicaps for all club members are on the handicaps page. We have now started to include indoor rounds as well. If you think that your handicap or classification is incorrect please contact Nick Purdy (Seniors) or Chessie Crook (Juniors) and they will sort any issues out.
Longbow uprising
Sunday 4th December saw a change to the afternoon shooting line and a lot of smiles on faces as those with longbows brought them out for the day. There were more longbows on the line than any other style. Some having to shoot a clout style to hit the target at 100 yards while others almost aiming on the target. Still the ground took a bashing. Smiles everywhere when an arrow missed the ground and hit the target.
GVA has its’ first Lady Bowman
Congratulations to Bex Day for attaining her Bowman classification on the 20th November 2011. She is the first lady to achieve this with Gordano. Bex shoots barebow but may now start shooting longbow to see what classification she can get in this discipline.
Congratulations to Paul and Tim Level 2 Coach status achieved.
Paul (TC) and Tim have spent the last 18months working on the Archery GB Level 2 Coaching Course and have now been advised that they have both passed. This means the club now has 2 level 2 coaches, 3 level 1 coaches a few Archery Leaders and few people waiting to go on coaching courses. The standard of our coaching is improving and in fact is the envy of many clubs.
Social Secretary is looking for contact details
Kevin is looking to build a list of contact details for those wishing to be better informed about social events or wishing to help organise or come up with ideas for events. Please would any adults willing to have more to do with the social side of the club weather you are a shooter or a parent get in contact with Kev at kevinnroberts@btinternet.com Indoor shooting has commenced.
We have started the indoor shooting on Wednesday nights. Please meet at the school at 6.00pm to set up the range. Many hands are needed to get everything running smoothly. Shooting should start by 6.30pm. The facility is so good that junior Ellie Boulton has already done a Robin Hood on one of Adams’ arrows and then Adam goes and does it to himself.
GVA has moved
Our new ground is at The Downs School, Charlton House, Wraxall, North Somerset. This super new facility allows us to have indoor and outdoor shooting and the luxury of toilets including full disable facility, changing facilities and proper car parking. We would like to thank The Downs School for all their help in obtaining a new location for the club. In the press again
We are in the local press again. Please click here to see copies of most of our press coverage.
Regional Junior Outdoor Championships Many of our juniors attended the junior championships and a number of medals / trophies were won. Full results can be found on the competitions page and at the GWAS site.
Chessie makes it into Archery UK magazine Our very own Chessie Crook has been featured in the Archery GB magazine “Meet Coach Chessie, 17 in our new-look junior’s pages” . You should have all received a copy of the magazine so give it a read. Well done Chessie. Keep the club flag flying.
Competitions general information
It has been decided that when the club holds competitions there will be no other shooting taking place. You may not turn up and expect to shoot separately unless by prior agreement with the committee. If you wish to gain prior agreement you must also understand that a maximum of 3 targets will be available for use outside of the competition and only if not needed for the competition. These targets will be set up and taken down by those wishing to shoot separately. The set up or take down may not take place while the competition is being shot but must happen either before or after the competition or during a break in the competition. The separate range must be set up not in view of those shooting the competition. Those wishing to shoot will be responsible for all health and safety on the separate range.
