+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ UK Ironman 27th December 2010 Gordano Valley Archers hosted the South West part of the competition with archers coming from across the South West to take part. All styles of bow were used making this a very eclectic competition. As well as the usual re-curve and compound we had longbows and Mongolian horsebows (sythian bows). There was some fantastic competition with two of the Wests best archers battling it out in the recurve section with our own Mark Ranouf coming out on top.
There were many strangely dressed characters from our club with silly hats, jesters outfits and a silly Santa with his shorts over his trousers.
A representative from Archery Interchange who organise the competition was quite surprised at the broad span of people and equipment that had turned out for the competition and made special comment about the number of juniors on the line.

GVA Juniors win at Somerset Junior Indoor Championships 2010
A strong team of Juniors went to Crewkerne for the 2010 championships and came back with four 1sts, two 2nds and a 3rd. Well done to Chessie, Callum, Rushda, Ethan, Haseenah, George, Thakirah, Haajir, Elisha and Connor. Thanks to TC and Tim for their coaching support at the event.

Mark Renouf has successfully made the rankings of Archery GB. Placed at 109 this is a considerable achievement and a first for GVA.
To qualify the archer has to undertake 3 elements as follows:
Shoot Requirement. To feature in the 2010 Target Archery Rankings, an archer must complete the following three elements: 1. Three ladies/gents FITA rounds at shoots with World record status (WRS), commonly called FITA Stars. 2. Two FITA 70m rounds at shoots with WRS. 3. Two Olympic rounds associated with WRS Ladies/Gents FITA or FITA 70m qualification rounds.
Calculations. The scores from each archer’s best 3 ladies/gents FITAs and from their 2 best FITA 70m rounds will be added to give their total points. Archers will then be ranked in total points order. Although there is a requirement for archers to complete the two Olympic Rounds, there is no sensible and simple way in which the scores could be used for the rankings as in previous years. Research has shown that omitting the Olympic round scores will have little significant effect on the final placing.

Gordano Valley Win the Somerset Frostbite League 2011
Please see the competitions page for more information. Well done to all those that had a go at the frostbite this year even if your scores were not registered in the competition. The trophy will be presented at the Somerset Interclub Championships in September.
