Regrettably all Beginners courses have been suspended, in line with Government and Archery GB guidelines.

We will keep matters under review and will post updates as soon as possible.  Meanwhile please stay safe and  rest assured we will resume courses as soon as possible.

Beginner’s Courses are run throughout the year on Sunday mornings. As with all archery it is weather dependent. The courses are run by ArcheryGB fully qualified coaches. The courses are structured to introduce anyone capable of holding a bow and arrow safely to shoot properly and safely. There is no minimum or maximum age limit however we do stress that a person must be able to hold and control a bow and arrow. The youngest people we have on our courses are about 6 or 7 years old and the oldest is about 80 years old. We supply all the equipment necessary to shoot as a beginner.

20141116_105237Courses are run over 6 sessions. The dates for each course are shown on the application form which is available on the link below. If you miss a session we will endeavour to make it up at the end of the course. We will keep a record of the sessions that you have turned up for and tailor each session to your requirements. If you cannot make a session just let us know when you will next be available so that we can make sure that we have enough coaches available to run the lines.

Once you have successfully completed the beginners course you will be invited to join the
club which will allow you to shoot at any of our club days. The club then offers an opportunity for
new members to sign up for our Intermediate Course which aims to built upon the knowledge and skills you learnt in the beginner course. This course is free to members.

Please see the application form for full details of cost and further information about joining us on a beginners course. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our Senior Coach Paul. He can be can be contacted at: [email protected]

We strongly recommend that you do not purchase any equipment until you have completed the beginners course.  You will be able to use (free of charge) club equipment on a

weekly basis after completing the course.

Once you have joined the club you will be eligible to purchase essential equipment via the club’s Bow Assisted Purchase Scheme. The Scheme aims to give you peace of mind – coaches will advise you on equipment and if you wish you can purchase your first bow on a “buy back” basis. Full details of the scheme are available upon request. You are able to take the bow home and as such are able to shoot with the same bow every time that you shoot.

Email received from a parent who attended our course:
“I’d just like to say thanks very much to you and your team of coaches for looking after us. I was quite pleased when my son said he wanted to do archery as it would give me an opportunity to have a go myself. I’ve enjoyed it way more than I thought I would and I think that is largely down to the relaxed but in control way the sessions have been run. It was clear from the start you really wanted people to keep having a go, especially the kids, and that there is genuine care for the sport and the people. The gentle steering rather than close instructing style of coaching works very well. My highlight so far was last Sunday, it wasn’t the hitting both the balloons on the target, it was then turning around to apologise to the group of people watching and waiting to have a go themselves for clearing the balloons and seeing a huge row of grinning faces. The support/competition balance thing is perfect. I’m sure we’ll see you again”.
